[JTB Hawaii 60th Anniversary Project] Donating Newly-Designed Rubbish Bins to the City of Honolulu

PRESS RELEASE
July 02, 2024

JTB Hawaii has reached its 60th anniversary, supported by the local community in Hawaii. To express our gratitude for the support we have received from Hawaii and to contribute to the community, we have held discussions with related organizations, including the City of Honolulu and the Waikīkī Business Improvement District Association (*1), aiming for sustainable tourism management and coexistence. As a result, we have decided to donate 30 newly designed rubbish bins to the City of Honolulu.

Thirty newly designed rubbish bins will be installed around Waikiki Beach

These new rubbish bins are being installed to address the trash problems in the Waikiki area, which include the increase in trash due to the rise in tourists, the scattering of trash around the area and the beach due to open-style rubbish bins, and the resulting marine pollution. The rubbish bins feature a hinged lid to prevent scattering, a design that harmonizes with Hawaii’s natural environment, and a durable, fixed structure, all aimed at improving the cleanliness and safety of the area.

Since the establishment of its Hawaii office in 1964, the JTB Hawaii Group (*2) and its sister company MC&A have built connections between millions of customers and the nature-rich region of Hawaii. To embody the JTB Group’s management philosophy of ‘strive to foster peace and global interconnectedness through the creation of opportunities for meaningful human interaction,’ we will promote sustainable tourism management in Hawaii by preserving the natural resources that serve as tourist attractions and by enhancing the cleanliness and safety of the community.

The 30 new rubbish bins (including spares) being donated will be installed at 13 locations, including near the Duke Kahanamoku statue at Kuhio Beach section of Waikiki Beach.

(*1) The Waikīkī Business Improvement District Association is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that brings together business, government, and community dedicated to the enhancement and prosperity of one of the world’s most renowned destinations. Their ‘Aloha Ambassadors’ hospitality team dressed in yellow shirts, activities focus on maintaining cleanliness, creating a safe and secure environment, and making Waikiki a welcoming place for visitors.
